Remember that class you took in high school or college “How to Make Money 101?” You know, the one that gave you a step-by-step methodology for making money in business or the stock market? Well, neither do I.
I took college courses in Marketing, Economics, Finance, Accounting and Business Management. What I do remember is that they all talked “around” the subject. Not one of them taught me how to make money.
Let’s look at an important fact. There are over 724,000 eBay professionals making a very nice living either full or part time on eBay. So the question is not whether it CAN be done, but HOW is it done? Just what is it that all those eBay professionals know that other sellers don’t?
As with the college classes, many of the eBay books currently on bookstore shelves seem to merely talk “around” the subject. I may read a good tip here or pick up a new strategy there, but there are virtually no books I have read to date that provide what sellers need most which is a step-by-step guide with a proven methodology – how to start, build, and maintain a successful eBay business!

Truthfully, I have invested too much time learning, then refining these methodologies not to share this information. In fact, I developed this website for eBay sellers just like YOU!
I’ll let you think about it for a minute. Here is a hint. If you have been selling on eBay there is a good chance that you have made it already, or are continuing to do so. Unfortunately, repeating this mistake, as well as others, can lead to the early failure of an eBay business. I don’t want that to happen to you.
I am a professional eBay Seminar Instructor, Author, Coach and Consultant. As an active and experienced eBay seller for six years, I have certainly made my share of mistakes. Now, as an eBay professional, I travel the country consulting with clients and teaching eBay seminars. Unfortunately, I continue to see several eBay sellers make the same mistakes I did, as well as many others. I realized that eBay sellers needed a solid methodology and support system to cut through the hype, avoid the traps and put them on the path to eBay success. I developed this site, TrainingU4auctions, to fill that need.
Three years ago, I resigned my position as Vice President of a market-leading Healthcare Cardiology software company and became a fulltime eBay Seller. I was earning well into six figures from my corporate job, but after a 23 year professional career, I had my fill of corporate politics and disappointments. I wanted to be in total control of my future and no longer place my career and financial future in the hands or at the whim of a corporate boss. After I resigned, other similar corporate opportunities were offered to me. I turned them all down, flat. Yes, I simply walked away from the corporate world and have never looked back.
I have now replaced my corporate income with eBay income. Thanks to eBay, I am independent. Best of all, for the first time in my professional career, I can honestly say that, “I NOW LOVE WHAT I DO FOR A LIVING!”
In class, I ask my students if any of their friends asked them this question before attending my seminars, “Why do you need to take a class about eBay selling? Anyone can sell stuff on eBay!” In most seminars, several people raise their hand. After they have attended all three of my eBay selling seminars (eBay I - Basics, eBay II - Intermediate and eBay III - Advanced) they have then attended over 10 hours of my in-person instruction. I then ask that question again. The response is usually unanimous and they actually laugh at that question. Their friends don’t have a clue what they have just learned in my seminars. Not even close.
There is a vast difference in knowing “How to list an item on eBay” to understanding exactly “How to start and run a successful, profitable eBay business!” Please reread that last sentence.
The question about their friend always makes me laugh as well. It is like asking a professional photographer, “Hey, why take a class on photography, I know how to click that button on my camera!” Right! Well, if you want to make money selling your pictures, you had better take a few classes and learn some tips from a top-notch photographer. Likewise, if you want to make money on eBay you had better learn how to do it right from an eBay professional!
Maybe you are an experienced eBay seller or just starting out. Regardless, I want to help you avoid the many common mistakes I continue to see sellers make over and over again.
It is this; They purchased their items to sell on eBay simply because the items were cheap!
Maybe they came across a liquidation sale and picked up a large quantity of product. Then they rushed to list their items on eBay only to discover that the items they just purchased are selling on eBay for less than what they paid. Yikes!
Worse yet, they continue this pattern over and over again with costly hit-or-miss results until they finally give up saying, “You can’t make any money on eBay!” Does this sound like you or someone you know?
Back in my corporate days, I can only imagine what my CEO would have said if I entered his office and told him the business plan for my division was to pick up several items to sell to our customers simply because they were cheap!
Was there any proven sales methodology that I based my decision on? Did I conduct a marketing study? Did I determine that a market demand existed for the products? Was there enough demand for the products that customers would pay the price required to make the items profitable? “No boss, let’s just pick up these items because they are cheap and then try to sell them to our customers.” Wrong!
Yet many eBay sellers continue to make this mistake over and over again with their eBay items. Unfortunately for these sellers, they don’t have a business, they have an expensive shipping hobby that never seems to get out of first gear and rarely turns much of a profit.
Don’t be embarrassed if you have done this. I did. So have most eBay professionals when they were starting out. The main problem is that you have not yet learned the proven methodologies for how to find a profitable niche then search for and source the right products the way professional eBay sellers do. Your solution is as simple as that.
It took me a long time, with expensive trial and error mistakes to figure it all out as well. But I finally did. I realized that I was treating my eBay selling as a hobby. Once I determined, refined and applied my business building methodologies and started using them consistently, my business became profitable and started growing almost immediately. My first gear business shifted to overdrive!
I now never purchase any item to sell on eBay until I have a guaranteed profit first! How do I do that? It is one of my eBay business building methodologies that I have developed based on my own practical experience as a professional eBay seller. I will share it all with you!
eBay is changing folks. It is shifting from the garage and fire sale items toward more profitable products. The eBay sellers that I consult with have discovered this as well and using my methodologies, they are now running very successful eBay businesses – part or fulltime.
